uncompromising 
not cinema of pleasure, or pandering to audience. works like an ambivalent, frequently frustrated, but lightly humorous search, of mid-life crisis coming to peace with itself. best appreciated by those over 30 or 40 (even if in mental age?), or those who empathize with the enduring love-guilt complex in asian family values.
